Grooming...Day 2

Objectives:
After Completing today's activity, you will be able to:
---list ten standards for being well groomed.
---provide specific information on how to maintain five standards of good grooming.


Instructions:
1. Later during this class period, you will have an opportunity to finish yesterday's experiment if you did not do so then.
2. Locate the textbook, Discovering Life Skills. Beginning with "Grooming and Personal Care" on page 18, read through page 23. Also,
read the "Super Skin" article taken from Choices Magazine which is located at the bottom of today's blog. Locate the article and then click on it to enlarge it so that your can easily read it.
3. On the back of yesterday's lined paper, write the correct module header and answer the following questions in your own words and complete sentences.
Your Skin:
-------1. What are the three functions of your skin?
-------2. How often should you shower or bathe?
-------3. What is the difference between a deodorant and an antiperspirant?

-------4. What are some factors that may lead to acne?
-------5. How do blackheads develop?
Your Hair:
-------6. How often should you shampoo oily hair?
-------7. How can you help to control dandruff?
Your Teeth-Watch the video "Basic Dental Health" and answer the following questions:
-------8. Name the theory that explains why people wait a long time before they see a dentist.
-------9. What is plaque?
------10. List two ways you can help to prevent plaque.
------11. What is the purpose of using dental floss?
------12. How often should you replace your toothbrush?
4. Locate the worksheet "Checking Up On My Gooming" in the blue milkcrate. At the top of the worksheet, write your name. Provide the information requested inthe following way:
--A. For statistics, list your height, weight and age and fill in the correct figure shpae for you. (If yo do not know your height, use th tape measure mounted on the doorframe of the front classroom door. If you don't know your weight, use the scale under the Career Center. To figure you BMI, use this website, http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/dnpabmi/Calculator.aspx or l
ook at the chart on the wall by the FACS office.
--B. For the remaining ten "standards of good grooming", fill out the rest of the worksheet. In other words, if you like your current hairstyle, check "I Like It". If you don't like your current hairstyle, write how your'd like to change it.
--C. Complete the worksheet.
--D. When you have completed the assignment, leave it in your numbered notebook.
5. If you did not finish yesterday's activity, return to it at this point and complete it.
6. Clean up your module area and make sure that everything is returned to its proper location.
